Judging of Entries
Judging is an anonymous process. Each entry is assigned a number code when it is received and that number is the only identification on the piece when the judges review the entry. The judging panel is made up of a team of distinguished professionals from the communications industry that are chosen based on their extensive knowledge of design, print and digital processes.
The judges are instructed to base their decisions and give points on:
1. Printing quality
2. Layout, design and typography
3. Stock compatibility and usage
6. Overall excellence
This criteria is adjusted accordingly based on entries in the digital, web, design and finishing categories.
Judging procedures are based on the technical merit of the entry. Judges will eliminate from contention any piece with obvious flaws such as hickeys, streaking, hazing, slurring, etc. Therefore, your selection of what to enter and how it is shipped is very important. The points are tallied up and entries can be awarded a Bronze (70+ points), Silver (80+ points), and Gold (90+ points). Golds are then reviewed and the highest scoring in a category will be awarded Best of Category, and exceptional entries may earn a Grand Award or the Best of Show.
Gold, Silver and Bronze award winners will be recognized and a Certificate of Award will be presented to the individual or company entering the piece. In addition, Best of Show (highest honor) and Grand Award winners will be photographed and will receive a customized metal print award. All Gold award winners (except in the Design category) will be automatically sent on to the Printing Industries of America Premier Print Awards at no additional cost for a chance to compete in the international competition and win the coveted “Benny” award. Winners will be notified via letter approximately one month prior the Showcase Awards Reception held in June.
Two copies of each entered piece must be placed in separate clear plastic sleeves. Large paper pieces should be rolled and submitted in mailing tubes. You may also drop-off your entries at any of our events or at our office during standard business hours. Or, please don’t hesitate to call our office and we will even stop by and pick up your entry. Please properly pack your entries for shipment to avoid damage that will reflect badly on the piece during judging.

An entry form must be completed and placed inside the plastic sleeve of each entry or taped, with removable tape, onto the sleeve.
The entry form must be legible. The Showcase will not be responsible for incorrect awards caused by illegible or unclear information on the entry forms.
THE ENTRY FORM SHOULD BE THE ONLY IDENTIFYING PIECE IN THE SLEEVE.
DO NOT PUT ANY OTHER IDENTIFYING LABELS ON THE SLEEVE OR ENTRY.
PROVIDE SPECIFIC INFORMATION FOR TITLE
It is best to provide an “entry-specifc” title. For example, “XYZ Corporation 2011 Annual Report,” is a much better title than just “Annual Report.” (If several of your annual report entries win, then each certificate will just have “Annual Report” on the “Presented for” line on the certificates.)
SINGLE PIECE…MULTIPLE CATEGORIES
If you are entering a piece in more than one category, you must submit separate pieces and pay separate entry fees for each category in which you wish the piece to be entered.
